For the past few weeks in the 7th-grade science class, students have been learning and studying a myriad of unique and interesting topics, from the simplest of molecules to the largest of animal populations!
The Water Cycle:
Beginning near the start of the second quarter (Q2), Mr. Case’s students learned about multiple different water-related terms, the three basic states of matter, and the interactions between heat and matter. During this study, all students within science class obtained the opportunity to observe a real-time, real-life experiment with dry ice, how the variating properties of dry ice interact with different substances, and plenty more!
The Organization of Life:
Less than a week after learning about the water cycle, students learned all the different properties of life and the twelve terms associated with them. They learned the comical phrase “Adam’s Monkey On Crutches Talks ‘Oo, Oo, Oo, Please Carry Extra Bananas,’” which stands for the twelve different collections of life from smallest to largest: Atom, Molecule, Organelle, Cell, Tissue, Organ, Organ system, Organism, Population, Community, Ecosystem, and Biosphere.
This Week’s Focus:
Just this week and somewhat into the previous week, students reviewed how plants undergo the process of photosynthesis through sunlight, and how energy cycles through all living organisms. They learned how the energy within our bodies is similar to a battery with the positive and negative properties of their atoms and molecules, and how energy transfers between both plants and animals. To end the week’s experiments, the students were challenged to create a detailed model of the energy cycle using only Play-Doh and raw spaghetti noodles in merely thirty minutes of class! Whoever made the most detailed models while still including the majority of the different sections of the cycle have photos of their models featured in this article!
